After months of rumors and speculations the Google Nexus 5 has finally been released. And with the release is the full details and specifications of the new Android smartphone. So you know what comes next right? All the comparison to the markets hottest smartphones out right now. Lucky for us Apple recently released their newest iPhone, the 5s, which is selling at an incredible rate. Comparing an Android phone to an iOS device is always tough but with Apple and Google being the biggest names in the smartphone business it is hard to ignore.

Design and display - We will start with the Nexus 5 which comes in at 5-inches in screen size and the resolution is 1920 x 1080 display, 445ppi. The iPhone 5s has a 4-inch 1136 x 640 pixel, 326ppi, Retina display. The Nexus has an inch over the iPhone here and the resolution on the Nexus seems better but one must ask how the Retina display helps on the new iPhone? The 5S measure 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and 112 g whereas the nexus is a bit larger coming in at 137.84 x 69.17 x 8.59mm and a heavier 130g. So in this instance the iPhone weighs a little less than the Nexus 5.

Battery power - We will give the specs here mostly because this is a very subjective area. Battery usage is always based on how the user spends their time on their smartphone. The Nexus 5 comes with a 2300mAh battery. It is said to be about 10 hours of battery life, which is the same amount Apple claims the iPhone 5s can manage.

Camera abilities - The Nexus 5 comes with an optical image stabilization 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera while Apple's iPhone 5s totes a 8 megapixels with 1.5µ pixels and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. The iPhone 5S has a larger sensor and wider aperture than before at f/2.4 for better low light shooting. A dual-bulb flash allows for True Tone which creates balanced images. The Nexus 5 camera is now equipped with Photo Sphere for knitted 360-degree shots, HDR+ which takes burst shots and automatically chooses the best.

Power - We saved the best for last! The Nexus 5 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor running at a hand-melting 2.26GHz. That's backed by a healthy 2GB RAM to keep everything zipping along. While Apple isn't about specs so much it's still pulling now punches in this area with its new A7 processor which is capable of 64-bit processing essentially making it future-proof while delivering double the power of its predecessor. The Snapdragon 800 helps the Nexus 5 put out 4K video, something the iPhone 5s also manages. Apple gets extra brownie points for the M7 processor which works alongside the main unit to calculate movement data.

Software is always debatable because it's always preference as with everything. Both the devices are running new operating systems. The Android runs the new OS KitKat where the iPhone 5s is running Apple's new iOS 7. Aesthetically speaking the iOS 7 update is a drastic overhaul for Apple's software where KitKat is a big play by Google to help bring their entire market up to speed.
