In desperate need of a lift in order to earn a top four position in the Barclays Premier League, defending league champion Manchester United is expected to explore the January transfer window in a big way. With first-year manager David Moyes seeking added help at the midfield position, multiple reports indicate that the former Everton boss has his eyes on current Atletico Madrid mid Koke. Madrid is currently tied atop the Spanish Primera Table with Barcelona and as they continue to rack up the wins while creating distance between themselves and clubs such as Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, it's hard to see a way the team sells one of its top players.

Nevertheless, David Moyes continues to monitor Koke's availability, even if the star recently said his future remains with Atletico. “I am happy to give more years to Atletico," he said in September after securing his future until 2018. “I am at the team of my life and I cannot ask for more. I want to continue working to try bring new success and better achievements than last year. I am very happy.” According to Goal.com, David Moyes has been following the season of Koke with the hope of landing the talented player during the winter period, especially since the summer window was a time of struggle at Old Trafford. Add in the fact that midfielder Marouane Fellaini hasn't been able to adapt to his new team and it's no surprise that Moyes and company are seeking an upgrade at the position.

While Manchester United continues to explore midfield options, reports indicate that Barcelona are interested in landing defensive help and they won't be shy about dipping into the Premier League to get it. Previously interested in Chelsea star David Luiz, Yahoo Sports indicates that the La Liga giants are once again on the trail of the Blues defender. Luiz reportedly turned down an offer to join the Catalan club over the summer but with Barca looking to improve that position, Jose Mourinho's defender serves as a top option.

Center backs in Gerard Pique, Marc Bartra and Javier Mascherano could use an additional supporting player – especially with talented defenseman Carles Puyol winding down his career – and the international star Luiz would be an unbelievable signing. If a suitable offer comes to the table, Chelsea and boss Jose Mourinho may not be able to pass it up.
