His brother John beat him in the Super Bowl this past NFL season, but maybe San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh gets the last laugh: he will be driving the 2013 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. Jim Harbaugh called the opportunity to participate so prominently in IndyCar's premiere race "a tremendous thrill".

Harbaugh will lead 33 IndyCar racers around the 2½ mile track in Speedway, Ind. on Sunday, driving a brand new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The 97th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will feature American Ed Carpenter at the pole position, and Scottish racer Dario Franchitti defending his 2012 win.

Jim Harbaugh is a co-owner of the racing team that includes Americans J.R. Hildebrand and Townsend Bell, Panther Racing. Jim Campbell, the United States' vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports called Harbaugh a "true athlete", and one that "personifies the Indianapolis 500's spirit of competition."

Harbaugh not only has ties to IndyCar racing, but the city of Indianapolis as well. Sporting the #4, Harbaugh and his fellow running back Marshall Faulk were the face of the Indianapolis Colts from 1994-1997.
