American rapper and singer Juice WRLD died after suffering a seizure Sunday morning at Chicago’s Midway airport. The 21-year-old artist was reportedly conscious before being rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead about an hour later.

According to reports, the “Lucid Dreams” singer caught a flight from his hometown Chicago to Los Angeles and was walking through the airport when he suddenly had a seizure and collapsed. Law enforcement and paramedics who immediately responded to the incident found the rapper bleeding from the mouth and slowly regaining his consciousness when they arrived. However, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his death shortly after he was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

In a statement, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said it was unclear whether the cardiac incident started before or after the Chicago-born musician landed in Chicago aboard a private jet. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi also revealed that there were no signs of foul play in his death but the individuals who were traveling with Juice WRLD at the time of the incident are already cooperating with the police.

Officers are now conducting a death investigation, interviewing witnesses to determine the cause and manner of his death. Guglielmi said medical examiners are scheduled to conduct an autopsy on the rapper’s remains on Monday.

Meanwhile, the death of Juice WRLD came as a shock for his fans. The rapper had just turned 21 six days before his death and he had no known disease at the time of his death. Shortly after his death, the artist’s record label, Interscope Records, released a statement paying tribute to Juice WRLD.

“He was a gentle soul, whose creativity knew no bounds, an exceptional human being and artist who loved and cared for his fans above everything else,” said the label. “To lose someone so kind and so close to our hearts is devastating. Our thoughts are with Juice’s family and friends, everyone at his label Grade A, and his millions of fans around the world,” the company added.

Juice WRLD grew up in south suburban Homewood in Chicago and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School in 2017 after gaining a reputation as a brilliant and creative musician.
