The untimely death of Kobe Bryant this 2020 continues to leave most in mourning, particularly his wife, Vanessa Bryant. And the recent lawsuit filed by her mother, Sofia Laine is only making things harder.

Laine filed a lawsuit against her daughter, accusing her of purposely withholding financial support since the NBA great passed away. Per court documents, the nearly 70-year-old Lane is alleging that she worked without getting paid despite being a longtime personal assistant and nanny to her grandchildren.

Further, Laine alleged that the former Lakers star had promised to take care of his mother-in-law for the rest of her life. It appears Vanessa Bryant does not wish to honor that.

Laine is now seeking $96 per hour in back pay for two-decades of pro-bono work. Aside from that, she is demanding $5 million, a new house and a Mercedes SUV, PageSix reported.

Vanessa responded to the lawsuit and said that her mother was trying to find ways to extort a financial windfall from their family. She adds that she has been supporting her mother for nearly twenty years and that Laine was never Kobe’s or her personal assistant.

"I have always been a stay at home mother and my husband and I were my daughter's full-time care givers," Bryant said. "In reality, she only occasionally babysat my older girls when they were toddlers."

It did not take long to respond to her daughter’s claim. She said that it was her daughter who was lying and not her.

"Why would she do this to her own mother? I am so disappointed, hurt, and wronged to the point that I had no choice but to file a lawsuit," Laine said via TMZ. "I am nearly 70 years old, my health is deteriorating, and my own daughter is dong this to me?"
