A man who was accused of murdering his two minor children two years ago reportedly killed himself by jumping from the fifth floor of the city civil court complex in Hulimavu, Bangalore, India on Wednesday, April 13.

The deceased, identified as Jatin R Kumar, who was arrested and charged with murder for the deaths of his two children, was brought from the city's central prison to the court complex to attend his hearing on Wednesday, April 13. However, at the courthouse, the man managed to sneak his way to the fifth floor of the building and took a fatal jump, the Times Of India reported.

The incident reportedly happened at around 2 p.m. on April 13 while Kumar was walking a court corridor escorted by an assistant sub-inspector of police and two constables from the City Armed Reserve. The man reportedly managed to shove the constable out of his way and hurled himself from one of the balconies in the courthouse.

Officers immediately rushed to the scene and transported Kumar to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, the man succumbed to his injuries and was later declared dead at the facility.

Kumar, who hailed from Kerala, India, married a woman from the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu and used to live in a private apartment located in Akshaynagar, Hulimavu. The couple reportedly had two children: a five-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son.

Kumar’s wife reportedly worked as a software engineer at a private company in Electronics City, Bangalore. Meanwhile, Kumar was unemployed. The man, who reportedly presumed that his wife and children did not respect him, often got into heated arguments with his family. During one such confrontation in 2020, Kumar, in a fit of rage, allegedly smothered his two underage children to death.

On March 20, 2020, based on a complaint filed by Kumar's wife, officers arrested the suspect on charges of killing his two kids inside his apartment, facing charges under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
