A Florida man has been charged with domestic battery after he allegedly threw hot ramen noodles on his roommate following an argument over a dog on Friday, Jan. 28.
On Friday, Jan. 28, the victim woke up at around 7:20 a.m. and allegedly saw his assailant Brandon Smith, 21, trying to lead his dog onto the bed. However, when she requested him to stop, he reportedly got visibly angry. The suspect proceeded to attack her and douse her with a pot of hot ramen noodles in Fort Pierce, about 20 miles north of Port St. Lucie, Daily News reported.
According to the victim's statements, Smith allegedly picked up the pot of searing hot ramen noodles off the stove and threw the contents on her. After drenching her with the simmering broth, he then struck her “on the back with the hot pot."
Authorities rushed to the scene after they were phoned by the alleged victim claiming that “Smith would not stop” attacking her.
When officers took Smith into custody and questioned him, the suspect claimed that the violent episode was just an accident. According to Smith, on the day of the incident, he woke up and “began making a pot of ramen noodles.” He said that the victim accidentally fell on top of the hot ramen noodles placed on the stove while she was chasing the dog around the room, the Smoking Gun reported.
Smith has been arrested for domestic battery and was booked into the St. Lucie County jail. He is being held on a $5,000 bond on a misdemeanor count.
Smith has previously been convicted for multiple offenses, including cocaine possession, resisting police, and driving without a license.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 14-year-old student allegedly threw a boiling hot bowl of ramen noodles into the chest of a 15-year-old victim in a girl's washroom in a British Columbia high school in December 2018, CBC News reported.
Pals before the confrontation, the accused and the victim's friendship reportedly soured over a boy. The two reportedly engaged in social media bullying each other for several months leading up to the confrontation.
On the day of the incident, the accused got a cup of noodles from her locker, filled it with boiling water, and went to the girls' washroom. At the bathroom, a heated confrontation ensued between the accused and the victim. The young assailant then threw the boiling hot bowl of ramen noodles into the victims' chest.
Following the attack, the victim suffered second and third-degree burns and was in need of skin grafts.
Meanwhile, the judge rejected the accused's claims that she acted involuntarily. The judge said that she had thrown the noodles as an offensive strike and not as a defensive move.
The names of the students, the high school, the teachers, and even the community where the incident occurred have been withheld to protect the underage victim's identity.
