A man allegedly killed his own 60-year-old father after the patriarch expressed his desire to get married again in Kukatikonda village, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, India on Feb. 14.

The victim, identified as Golla Gopal, a farmer by profession, was reportedly planning to get married again at the age of 60. The patriarch had announced his decision sometime before Valentine's Day this year, shocking his children.

After realizing that his father was stern in his resolve to remarry, Gopal's eldest son G Bala Rangadu, with the help of a marriage broker, K Earanna, and another friend, B Mallikarjuna, murdered the elderly man and dumped his body in a canal on Feb. 14, the New Indian Express reported.

An investigation into the incident began after Gopal's remains were found in the Yemmiganur Rural Police Station limits on Monday, Feb. 14.

Gopal reportedly had two sons and two daughters. The four children are now all married and make a living by working in their father’s land. After Gopal’s wife passed away due to health issues in 2017, the patriarch started feeling lonely. Following this, he started contacting marriage brokers to find a suitable partner. However, his children and other relatives were against his decision to get remarried.

Without taking his children's opinion into consideration, Gopal continued his search for a good match, sold his house site, and decided to move to Kurnool to find a new wife.

Gopal’s eldest son Rangadu, realizing that his father was determined, planned to kill him so his father's land would remain in their care. Rangadu then approached Earanna, and another friend, Mallikarjuna, and offered them US$1,994 (1,50,000 Indian Rupees) to help murder his father.

On Feb. 14, Earanna and Mallikarjun picked up Gopal under the pretext of discussing a potential alliance. However, they halted their vehicle at a vacant lot between Sirandoddi and Gudekallu where Rangadu was waiting for them. The suspect then attacked his father with a knife and killed him before proceeding to leave the man's corpse in a nearby canal.

Following the discovery of Gopal's body, the deceased's son and the two other suspects were arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a Utah man allegedly repeatedly shot his father in anger after the patriarch brought home the wrong chicken wings order in late October 2021.

The argument between the father and the son began after Alika Suliafu's father returned to their residence with food for his son on Oct. 21, 2021, Latin Times reported.

"When Suliafu discovered that the chicken wings were not the variety he liked, he became upset and began to argue," an officer wrote in the probable cause statement.
Following this, the dispute between the father and son escalated. In a fit of rage, Suliafu went into his bedroom, returned with a gun, and pointed it at his father.

Despite his father begging him not to open fire, Suliafu proceeded to shoot at his father and allegedly punched his father in the back of the head while he was running away.

When officers from the Bountiful Police Department arrived at the scene shortly after, Suliafu had already fled the scene. However, he was later apprehended and arrested in Bountiful, Utah, approximately 11 miles north of Salt Lake City.
