A man has been accused of brutally killing his ex-wife and her son in front of the victim's grandchildren after an argument erupted between them over lights being left on for an extended amount of time, at their house in Deltona, Florida on Sunday, Sept. 18.

The accused, identified as Michael Williams, 47, allegedly shot his 48-year-old ex-wife Marsha Ebanks-Williams and her 28-year-old son Robert Adams following an argument over electricity use in the house they shared on East Parkway, south of International Speedway Boulevard, near DeLand on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Williams reportedly shot them dead in front of Marsha's two grandchildren, aged 5 and 6, who were in the residence at the time of the murders, Miami Herald reported.

Deputies received a 911 call from Williams informing them that he’d gunned down Marsha and her son Adams in self-defense on late Sunday. Following this, officers responded to the house in DeLand, about 40 miles north of Orlando, just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 18.

When deputies arrived, they located Williams sitting in a parked vehicle on the property's driveway. Williams told deputies that he shot the victims in self-defense as he claimed that he had been attacked by the victims, was held down, and punched in the face. However, he did not have any significant injuries aside from a few scratches.

Williams and his ex-wife were married for about 10 years and reportedly got divorced in June. As part of the divorce agreement, Williams was allowed to stay in the house, ClickOrlando reported.

Williams was reportedly upset that his ex-wife and family were leaving the lights on in the house and had been arguing with them for days about the use of electricity. On Sept. 18, he cut power to the house, locked an electrical panel, and left the home. However, Marsha and Adams later cut the lock and turned the power to the house back on.

Williams reportedly became upset over this and started an argument with the victims which ultimately resulted in Williams shooting and killing them.

Hours before the shooting, Marsha reportedly called law enforcement to ask for legal advice.

“My ex-husband, who still lives in the home, I came home and he basically locked me completely out of my home. He then basically, roundabout said that if he cannot get back in he’s going to do something to the home while we’re in here,” she said in the 911 call that was released by the sheriff's office.

“What I don’t want, I just want it on record, that he didn’t do anything, other than locking us out of the house, but it was an implied threat.”

Williams is currently being held in the Volusia County jail without bond and faces two counts of first-degree murder.
