A man was found guilty of murder by gross negligence upon declining to untie his partner, who was left suffocating, before sleeping after a night of sex games induced by alcohol and drugs.

Warren Coulton, 52, and Claire Wright, mother of two, were seen consuming liquor, as well as ecstasy and MDMA, prior to engaging in BDSM in a hotel suite, which they recorded on video.

After an intense sexual encounter, Coulton left Wright to die in asphyxiation, claiming, "You can't breathe just how I like it."

According to North Wales Live, retrieved footages captured Coulton enjoying his partner's inability to breathe before finding her lifeless the next day. In a court trial at Mold Crown Court, documents showed that Coulton put a sock into Wright’s mouth and have taped it up.

Coulton awoke to find her dead but left the scene.

On July 16, 2018, Coulton and Wright booked a luxurious lodge at Herons Lake Retreat near Flintshire, Wales. At Mold Crown Court, prosecutor Caroline Rees QC said the pair had "toys" including ties, red tape, white tape, and gloves for their intimate encounter.

“Restraint and bondage were part of this couple’s sex life. The defendant took gratification from pushing the boundaries of the former,” Rees said. “The couple had engaged in sexual activity involving the use of restraints on Claire Wright that night,” she added.

According to the hearing, Coulton, who was identified as the relationship's "dominant" partner, had tied Wright's hands behind her back and placed a sock in her mouth.

Wright was left powerless and incredibly fragile, especially given their alcohol and substance abuse.

The jury was told that video from their stay had been discovered on their Sony camcorder.

Wright was "dancing" at the retreat while wearing a red catsuit. Video footage showed that Wright didn't want a hood placed on her during the game because it frightened her.

Coulton allegedly used Wright's phone the next day to text Herons to request another room stay for the night.

According to the prosecution, Coulton wrote the text to "conceal" his movements.

However, the retreat was fully booked, so staff declined "her" request for another night in the lodge. Staff saw Coulton then drove away.

On Monday, July 16, 2018, Wright was found by cleaning and maintenance employees.

“Her body was found naked, abandoned, and alone,” Rees said.
