A man has been accused of brutally slitting the throat of his 5-year-old niece and killing her after she repeatedly asked him for a mango fruit while he was having a meal in Kheda Kurtan village, Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, India on Tuesday, July 19.

The accused, identified only as 33-year-old Umardeen, reportedly felt irritated after his 5-year-old niece, Khairu Nisha, nagged him repeatedly while asking for a mango fruit as he was having a meal. Enraged over her demands, the accused allegedly picked up an iron rod and hit the child on the head with it. As the child started bleeding, Umardeen proceeded to slit her throat with a knife. He then stuffed her body in a sack with the intention of disposing of it later on, the Times Of India reported.

The victim, the daughter of a laborer, was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon, July 19. After her disappearance, local law enforcement and villagers searched the town looking for the child. Umardeen had also joined the search party to avoid suspicion. However, when the officers started suspecting his involvement in the girl's disappearance, Umardeen fled and went into hiding.

The victim's body was eventually found in Umardeen's house. Following the gruesome discovery, the authorities launched a manhunt for the suspect. Umardeen was later arrested hiding in a forested area near the village. The officers also recovered the alleged murder weapons in his possession at the time of his arrest on Thursday night, July 21, India Today reported.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's father, an FIR (First Information Report) has been registered against the accused under IPC(Indian Penal Code) section 302 (murder).

In a similar but unrelated incident, a man reportedly decapitated his 5-year-old niece after believing that the human sacrifice will cure him of some illness he was suffering from in Deogarh, Odisha, India on Tuesday, March 15, Latin Times reported.

On Tuesday morning, March 15, the accused, identified as 22-year-old Nagarjun Bhainsa, reportedly barged into the house of the victim's uncle Debendra Bhainsa while the 5-year-old toddler, Rojalin, was eating breakfast. After storming into the house, Bhainsa took out an axe and beheaded the toddler.

Meanwhile, concerned neighbors and the girl’s father Susant Bhainsa rushed to the spot and he was subsequently handed over to the authorities.

When the officers questioned Bhainsa, the accused confessed that he killed his niece as a sacrifice to get cured of some ailment he is suffering from.
