After a somewhat shaky start this season, Manchester United and first-year head coach David Moyes have turned their fortunes around in a big way. Though repeating as Barclays Premier League champions was certainly not going to be easy, The Red Devils continue to make their way up the 20-team table and through 12 matches, Moyes and company sit sixth with 21 points. Hoping to keep their solid play going in the BPL is undoubtedly a goal but Man U supporters at Old Trafford would also love nothing more than to see their beloved squad advance to the elimination stages of the competitive UEFA Champions League.

Currently holding the top spot in Group A with a total of 8 points, Man U holds a one-point lead over Bayer Leverkusen while also enjoying a three-point lead on top of Shakhtar Donetsk and a seven-point edge over Real Sociedad. Set to travel to BayArena for a showdown with Bundesliga squad Leverkusen, The Red Devils are certainly aware of the challenge that lies ahead. Despite having defeated their Group A rivals 4-2 earlier in the First Phase, David Moyes and his unit will need to be on point if they're to hand Leverkusen its second non-win at home this season. They'll also have to do it without the services of star play-maker Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic.

"They are both injured," Moyes said. "Nemanja Vidic had concussion and Robin has a problem with his groin. Neither of them are long-term but they are not quite ready." With first place on the line in Group A and significant momentum moving forward, Leverkusen boss Sami Hyypia noted that his team was very tentative in losing to Man U back in September at Old Trafford. Playing extremely well heading into the rematch with The Red Devils, striker Stefan Kiessling hopes his team can continue its recent home dominance since this match holds a high level of importance for both teams.

"The first time we played them, we showed Manchester United too much respect and were very anxious," Kiessling said. "Since then we have played a lot of good games and achieved some excellent results. At home we are a real force and, don't forget, this is not only an important game for us, it is for them as well."
