Currently sitting eighth in the twenty-team Barclays Premier League, Manchester United is making its final preparations for a crucial match against Everton. Set to host their BPL rivals Wednesday at Old Trafford, The Red Devils have every intention on walking away victorious after failing to do so in the previous two BPL matches. Playing to multiple 2-2 draws with Cardiff City and Tottenham, David Moyes and company certainly showcased the ability to compete at a high level but have been unable to get over the top in the last two contests.
As they ride the eighth position in the league - nine points behind top club Arsenal - first-year manager David Moyes understands that the team is still coming together, something that has become a bit more difficult due to the nagging injuries star Robin van Persie continues to deal with. Prepared to face his old club for the first time since taking over at Old Trafford, Moyes also noted that Marouane Fellaini, one of the players struggling to adapt at a quick pace, is still getting acclimated to his role with The Red Devils just the way Moyes is building his confidence as Man U head coach.
"It is the same settling-in process that most Manchester United players go through," the former Everton boss said. "I don't think it is just Marouane or David Moyes. It is players joining this club. Obviously there will be players who hit the ground running and can go right in but there will be others who take a little bit of time. There have been quite a few of those here. For me personally, I knew the enormity of the job at Manchester United. It hasn't changed for me at all. It is the biggest job and for me personally it is a great challenge."
Manchester United is 6-4-3 through 13 league matches and with a main goal of moving up in the standings, the English giants could certainly propel themselves by earning a victory over an Everton club that currently leads them by 2 points in the standings. The Toffees however, have been playing strong soccer in recent days, earning a win or draw in their last six matches. Looking forward to the opportunity of playing a major opponent on the road, Everton boss Roberto Martinez is fully confident that his side will be able to earn its first victory at Old Trafford in twenty seasons.
"If we want to do something special this season we need to break that mentality of going to the big grounds and not being able to get good wins," Martinez said. "If you look at the last 10 years we have never beaten Manchester United or Arsenal or Chelsea or Liverpool at their own grounds and that for us is something we need to address. It doesn't matter who you are playing against or where you are playing you need to be able to perform with great standards and that is a fantastic test and challenge to have on Wednesday."
With only one defeat on their Premier League resume this season, Roberto Martinez and Everton certainly possess the talent to win at Manchester but a true test will come in the form of a Man U team looking to get back to the form that saw them claim last season's league title.
