As Meghan Markle celebrated her 41st birthday on Thursday, an outpouring of greetings accompanied its celebration, although many noticed that the Queen herself had not greeted Meghan on her special day.

Meghan received birthday greetings from Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, with the couple tweeting a picture of Meghan in St. Paul’s Cathedral during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, captioning it with “Wishing a happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!” according to Woman & Home.

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also commemorated the date on Twitter, but largely absent from the greetings was the Queen, who had tweeted about the occasion last year by posting three pictures where she was with Meghan during events, Elle Magazine reported.

Comments on the greetings from social media users ranged from appreciative to angry, with some users accusing the royal couple of not locking their comments on Twitter so that they can enjoy the negative comments made about Meghan.

“You only wished Meghan Birthday wishes so you can be entertained by the vile comments left under that . If you meant it you would have closed the comments so people don’t have a chance to abuse her on her Birthday but NO you left them open so can have a laugh. It’s a shame,” a commenter said.

Although Meghan and Prince Harry have not commented on the perceived snub of the occasion, many are looking into William and Charles’s messages as an olive branch to the couple after months of tension between the family members.

“The fact that they chose this photograph may signify to some that Prince William and Duchess Catherine were applauding her involvement with the family and the special occasion for the Queen,” royal commentator Lauren Hughes said.

The British Royal Family members were not the only ones who commented and celebrated Meghan’s birthday this year: actor and entertainment tycoon Tyler Perry also tweeted a message commemorating her birthday this year, Yahoo! reported.

“I’ve had a front row seat in your life for the past few years. I’ve watched you endure things that would have broken a lot of people,” he said. “I'm so incredibly proud to see how happy you, your husband, and your kids are now. It fills me with joy to say happy birthday Princess Meghan.”
