In 1967, AMG was founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, whose last names make up two-thirds of the "AMG" initials. The "G" is for Großaspach, Aufrecht's birthplace. Marking the 45th anniversary of AMG, the bad boys of Mercedes-Benz introduced a very special SL65 AMG 45th anniversary edition packed with some heavy hardware.

Powered by the same mighty hand-built twin-turbo 6.0 liter V12 "M275" engine found in 65 AMG vehicles, the brawler/grand tourer produces 621-hp and 738 lb.-ft. of torque.

While identical underneath, the 45th anniversay flaunts its exclusivity by featuring a special exterior appearance package. With a limited production run of just 45 vehicles, each anniversary edition SL65 AMG will receive a new silk-matte gray finish known as magno graphite. Shiny polished chrome trim pieces including the grille, and fins on the fenders and hood tastefully contrast the sinister paint finish. Black-chrome accents the dual exhaust pipes and a set of matte titanium AMG forged multi-spoke wheels, sized 255/35R19 front and 285/30R20 rear, fill the wheel well. Finally, silk-matte carbon fiber side mirrors and lip spoiler finish the look.

In the cabin, seats are finished in ginger beige designo leather stitched in a luxurious diamond-stitching pattern. Diamond stitching also continues onto its door panels and the headliner. Accents in matte carbon pull an interesting combination of performance and luxury.

Showcasing the awesomeness that is the SL65 AMG 45th anniversary, Mercedes-Benz released a new ad featuring a man overwhelmed with emotion as much as he is by the AMG's acceleration as his tears get pulled sideways across his face. According to Mercedes-Benz, the SL65 AMG 45th anniversary edition is one of the few places where a grown man cries. Check out the video to find out why:
