MIguel Cabrera gets 2,000th hit in Tigers' win Getty

Miguel Cabrera, Tigers’ first baseman got his 2,000 hit yesterday against the Baltimore Orioles. Cabrera went 4 for 5 with an RBI single in the sixth inning and a two run homer in the eighth. The home run was his 2,000th career hit. The Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles at Comerica Park.

He is the seventh youngest player to reach the 2,000 hit mark and the ninth player to become part of this prestigious club before his 31st birthday. He joins great company including greats like Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Mel Ott, Hank Aaron, Joe Medwick, Jimmie Foxx, Robin Young and Alex Rodriguez.

After the game Cabrera said, “I never expected I was going to hit 1,000 hits. I never expected to achieve something personal. I was planning to go out there and try to do my job, try to find a way to help my teammates, help my team to win games. That’s the way I do it.”

Then he went on to say, “If I’m not doing my job, people are going to talk. I’ll let people say whatever they can say. My job is to play baseball.”

Miguel Cabrera is the 5th player in MLB history with 2,000 hits, 300 homers and 1,200 RBIs in his first 12 seasons.
