EA revealed the all-new Need For Speed Rivals today, a release title for Sony PS4 as well as Xbox One. Need For Speed Rivals is slated for a November 19, 2013 release for the current generation and PC consoles. The next-generation title is expected to arrive before the end of the year.
2013 is an exciting year for video games as the new Xbox One was finally unveiled earlier this week, just weeks after Sony formally announced their next-generation PS4.
Anticipating the cutting-edge abilities of the new consoles, EA co-developed Need For Speed Rivals with developers Criterion to adopt the Frostbite 3 game engine to the popular arcade racer.
Though the Need For Speed franchise may not be as realistic as Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsports, Need For Speed is a consistent pioneer in racing gameplay.
According to EA, Need For Speed Rivals will once again feature an open-world experience. This time, Rivals, just as the title suggests, will allow players to choose either side-street racing or law enforcer. In addition, even law enforcers are allowed to modify their vehicles with a slew of performance upgrades and performance upgrades including body kits, wheels, ride heights, as well as paintjobs and decals.
However, the option to choose sides isn't the party piece for Need For Speed Rivals. The game also boasts "AllDrive," the ability to jump from single player to co-op or multiplayer seamlessly.
"AllDrive is fundamentally a way for us to destroy the line between playing alone and playing with friends. Destroying the line between single-player and multiplayer," Ghost executive producer Marcus Nilsson told Joystiq. "Imagine you're playing Rivals, you're driving your car as a cop chasing someone. You're going through your progression, collecting points and then I join and we're friends, so we'll be put in the same world."
