It has been confirmed that Netflix will indeed bring back Jon Bernthal as The Punisher in his own spinoff series for the streaming service.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Bernthal will be reprising his role as the tortured vigilante antihero Frank Castle. While Steve Lightfoot, who served as a writer and executive producer on NBC's "Hannible," will be the showrunner for Marvel's "The Punisher." Lightfoot will also write the first two episodes for the season. Furthermore, there is a teaser for the spinoff showing The Punisher's iconic white skull. Check out the picture here.

"We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from Marvel’s Daredevil," said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb in a press release, "Now combined with Showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring Marvel’s The Punisher to Netflix."

Lightfoot said in a statement that the characters story and Bernthal's performance in the second season of "Daredevil" allured to him. Lightfoot said:

"For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world. After watching Jon’s performance in Marvel’s Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own."

Rumors that Marvel Television and Netflix were working on a potential spinoff series was first reported last summer by TV Line.

So far Marvel Television and Netflix have collaborated to bring a number of separate series to the streaming service. As of now, the two companies have five series in various stages of development including: "Luke Cage," "Iron Fist," the second season of "Jessica Jones," "The Defenders" -- which will bring all three heroes mentioned together along with Daredevil -- and "The Punisher."
