The New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals will collide on Monday Night Football in an inter-conference matchup. These two teams only face one another once every four years, so this should be an interesting game. Both squads have been rather disappointing this season thus far.
New York Jets (1-4)
The Jets just can’t seem to find their place. They are playing poor on both offense and defense, Darrelle Revis is hurt, and Ryan Fitzpatrick leads the NFL in interceptions. It’s going to take a miracle for the Jets to turn their season around, but anything is possible.
Fitzpatrick has to start making smarter decisions with the football. With five touchdowns and 10 interceptions, he’s definitely been one of the most disappointing players in the league this season. The Jets defense can’t afford to continue with this starting field position because of so many turnovers. Speaking of defense, the Jets are allowing far too many deep balls, and that’s not a good sign with the Cardinals coming to town.
The No. 1 way for the Jets to win starts by establishing the run. If the Jets can get their ground game going, it will keep the Cardinals offense off the field and eat up the clock.
The Jets face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7.
Arizona Cardinals (2-3)
Like the Jets, the Cardinals have certainly been a disappointment this year so far. Still, they are very much in the thick of things. With a win on Monday night, the Cardinals will have won back-to-back games, thus back to a .500 record.
This is a huge game for the Cardinals because we must remember they take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7. If the Cardinals can beat the Jets and beat the Seahawks next week at home, the NFC West becomes a lot more winnable.
More than likely Carson Palmer will suit up for Monday’s game after suffering a concussion earlier in the year. Palmer hasn’t had a very promising start to the season with just six touchdowns and five interceptions. As usual, Larry Fitzgerald is having another fine start to the season with a team-leading five touchdown grabs. The Cardinals passing attack against the Jets secondary will be the primary matchup to focus on.
Schedule
The Jets and Arizona Cardinals will play each other on Monday night at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. You can watch a live game stream here .
Prediction
Both teams desperately need a win, but the Cardinals are at home and they have the Fitzgerald factor. Fitzgerald has made a career of thriving on prime time television, and you can bet he’ll make his presence known on Monday night. The Jets should look toward the trade deadline for answers if they lose this one.
Cardinals win 34-27
