It’s the time of year when we when we start to remember the year in lists of best and worst and when we pick our favorites before closing the book. Just like us, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama picked their favorite songs, books, moments and movies of 2015. For starters, when it came to music, Michelle told People magazine that she “can’t get enough” of Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk,” and her husband picked Kendrick Lamar’s “How Much a Dollar Cost.”

As for TV shows the couple revealed they’re both big fans of “Black-ish” (which was Michelle’s top pick) and the President chose “The Knick” as his favorite. When it came to books and movies, POTUS chose “Fates and Furies” by Lauren Groff as his top read, and “The Martian” starring Matt Damon as his top movie. FLOTUS chose “The Light of the World” by Elizabeth Alexander as her favorite book and said she absolutely loved Disney’s “Inside Out” starring Amy Poehler.

In terms of their favorite moments, the couple said they had many, but some that stood out for the President included “the gathering outside the White House following the Supreme Court ruling upholding the right of same sex couples to marry,” as well as “becoming the first sitting president to visit north of the Arctic Circle,” he told the magazine.

As for Michelle, she spent some time with girls at a school in Cambodia, where one of them read her a poem she had written about FLOTUS’s initiative to help girls worldwide go to school, “Let Girls Learn.” “It was beautiful – I was trying so hard not to cry!” she said.
