An advertisement published today in the Metro Newspaper has revealed that Sony's next generation console, the Playstation 4, will arrive in the United Kingdom before the year is up.

In the full page advertisement ran in the paper today the gaming giants teases us with the release of the PS4 by featuring its new DualShock 4 controller and the message "coming 2013."

The announcement today suggests that Sony is preparing a worldwide launch during the holiday season, instead of their usual limited release to the U.S. and Japan.

The company said it was aiming for a 'holiday 2013' launch window when it officially unveiled the system at a New York press conference back in February.

Fans all have taken notice to the advert and have been tweeting about it all morning:

The2013 release will most likely be a worldwide event, but Europe is known for getting the short end of the stick when it comes to gaming releases. When the Playstation 3 was set to launch in November 2006 but ended up being pushed back until March 2007 because of a shortage of materials needed to build the Blue-ray drive.

Missing the holiday season for Europe was a huge mistake on Sony's part and it seems like they have learned from that incident with the release of the advert in the Metro Newspaper.

A Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson told The Verge: "We announced at the PlayStation Meeting event on Feb 20th that PS4 would be coming in 2013, the adverts are simply re-stating that message."

The advert published today is undoubtedly Sony's response to the unveiling of the Xbox One, the new next-generation console from Microsoft that was announced earlier this week.
