Prince Charles was reported on Saturday to have accepted at least three million euros from a prominent Qatari politician, supposed for charitable donations to the prince’s private fund that bankrolls his projects and estate in Scotland.

The report stated that Charles had accepted €3 million in cash from former Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani between 2011 and 2013, with one of these transactions having him accept the €1 Million inside a suitcase, according to CNN.

Another occasion has the Sheik giving the Prince another €1 Million in carrier bags while on Fortnum and Mason, an upscale department store in London. He also accepted the €1 Million in duffel bags after a private meeting with the Sheik inside Clarence House, the BBC reported.

Clarence House has said that the funds that were accepted were charitable donations to the Prince’s charities, while a royal source said that the transaction followed the correct processes in accepting the funds from the Sheik, and that auditors had signed off on the donation.

“Charitable donations received from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim were passed immediately to one of the prince's charities, who carried out the appropriate governance and have assured us that all the correct processes were followed,” Clarence House said.

The €3 million that were accepted reportedly went to the Prince of Wales's Charitable Fund, which bankrolls projects and charities that align with the Prince’s vision, as well as his country estate in Scotland.

The fund is recently undergoing scrutiny after one of the workers of the fund reportedly offered a Saudi donor a U.K. honor and citizenship in exchange for a donation to the Prince’s fund. The controversy caused Michael Fawcett, the chief executive of the fund at the time, to resign due to allegations that he was the one who coordinated with the Saudi donor.

Prince Charles denied any knowledge of wrongdoing related to the incident.
