There is a reason Prince Philip will no longer allow Sarah Ferguson to return to the royal fold. According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, the Duke of Edinburgh has not seen any improvement on Fergie’s behavior since she ruined the reputation of the royal family more than 20 years ago.

Prince Philip and Fergie made headlines last weekend after Fergie cut short her holiday at Balmoral, allegedly to avoid her former father-in-law. As previously reported, Prince Philip was supposed to arrive this weekend at Balmoral, but he arrived much earlier than planned. Upon learning that the duke was coming, Fergie immediately packed her things and flew back to London via a private jet.

In an interview, a royal expert said that the feud between Prince Philip and Fergie may no longer be resolved. “I don’t think the rift between Prince Philip and Sarah Ferguson will ever heal,” he said.

“He recognizes the damage she did when she was a member of the royal family and the way she has behaved in subsequent years has done nothing to give him any confidence in her judgment,” he added.

When the Duke of Edinburgh attended Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank last October, he only put his and Fergie’s differences aside to celebrate the event. He even sat near Fergie in their family photos, suggesting that there was no longer bad blood between them.

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, however, Prince Philip never showed Fergie any feeling of warmth during the event. He said that royal followers who thought they were finally able to mend their relationship were much mistaken because it appeared that the Duke of Edinburgh will never want to be on good terms with Fergie again.

Prince Philip and Fergie’s rift started more than 20 years ago, after Fergie’s toe-sucking scandal with American businessman John Bryan led to her divorce from Prince Andrew in 1996. Prince Philip was reportedly so infuriated by Fergie’s infidelity during their marriage that he banished her from the Palace and took back her access to royal resources even before their divorce was finalized.

Prince Andrew and Fergie have remained friends after their divorce. Their joint public appearances of late have led to rumors of a possible remarriage, but both parties have denied the reports.
