Prince William and Princess Diana shared a tight bond as son and mother when the Princess of Wales was still alive. The duo has also been photographed in public countless times.

In one of their throwback pictures, Prince William carries Princess Diana’s white bag while they are walking outdoors. The Duke of Cambridge was just 6 or 7 years old at that time. In the snap, the now dad of three is wearing a blue and white Lacoste shirt and navy-blue printed shorts.

Princess Diana, on the other hand, is wearing a blue long-sleeved dress that was adorned with gold buttons. The late mom of two is smiling from ear to ear as she walks behind her eldest son.

Prince William was just 14 years old when his mom tragically passed away following a fatal car crash in Paris. But even after Princess Diana’s death, her legacy lived on through her two children. In fact, Prince William still remembers a lot of wonderful things about Princess Diana from the time she was still alive.

While speaking with a group of young children during one of his royal engagements, Prince William said that he lost his mom at such a young age. He also encouraged the youngsters to talk about their loss.

During one of his forums, Prince William said that time has made the death of his mom easier. However, he still misses Princess Diana every single day. The Princess of Wales passed away on Aug. 31, 1997.

Following her death, Prince William shared how he felt and what he thought at the moment when he was told that Princess Diana had passed on.

“Initially, there is a sense of profound shock and disbelief that this could ever happen to you,” he said. “Real grief often does not hit home until much later. For many, it is a grief never entirely lost. Life is altered as you know it, and not a day goes past without you thinking about the one you have lost. I know that over time it is possible to learn to live with what has happened and, with the passing of years, to retain and rediscover cherished memories,” Prince William added.
