The unpleasant weather expected on Friday pushed Prince William and Kate Middleton to make changes to their popular royal event and some fans have been left disappointed.

"Due to adverse weather conditions forecasted for Friday in Cowes, The King’s Cup hosted by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will now take place on Thursday 8th August at 1400hrs," Kensington Palace announced in a Twitter post.

"Members of the public are invited to watch the race and prize-giving ceremony from the SailGP Race Village, which will be free to access and includes a 500-seater grandstand."

The event was originally scheduled for August 9.

Some fans have responded in disappointment after hearing the announcement.

"I'll be back in school then," said a Twitter fan with a crying emoji.

This fan seemed at a loss for words and simply left a devastated-looking clip in the reply section.

Another disappointed fan simply asked for new photos of the Duke and Duchess to compensate for the last-minute changes.

"But, but, I need a Will and Kate fix, can you post a few new photos to hold me over till then?" asked user @goo_gunner.

On the other hand, some attendees responded that they are still able to attend at the rescheduled date and that they are glad the event is pushing through. Another fan expressed her wish to have the event streamed live.

"We will be there, Your Highnesses!" said user @TheBigBookProj1.

The King's Cup is an inaugural regatta hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to raise awareness and funds for eight of their patron charities represented by eight competing boats. Prince William and Middleton will each take one of the state-of-the-art Fast-40 boats and compete with six other celebrities for The King's Cup trophy.

The trophy carries a historic value after having been presented by King George V at the Cowes' Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.

Prince William will compete with notable celebrities including Fara Williams, Dan Snow and Bear Grylls. Middleton will be joined by John Bishop, Katie Thistleton and Helen Glover.

The King's Cup is for the benefit of the following charities: Child Bereavement UK, Centrepoint, The London Air Ambulance Charity 30th Anniversary Campaign, Tusk, Action on Addiction, Place2Be, The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families and The Royal Foundation.
