Queen Elizabeth is said to be closer to these grandchildren than any other, and it’s not the future king and queen William and Catherine. It is claimed that Her Majesty likes her granddaughter Zara and husband Mike Tindall more than her other grandchildren.

As per the royal expert and author Ingrid Seward, contrary to what many people think, the Queen’s favorite grandchild is actually Zara. She also grew fond of her husband as she came to know him more after marrying her granddaughter.

Seward explained that the reason Queen Elizabeth has a tighter bond with Zara and Mike than Kate Middleton and Prince William is that she finds the Tindalls more comfortable to hang out with. She loves the fact that Her Majesty can be “normal” around them, and this is something that she cannot do when with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“The Queen has always adored Zara and is so proud of her riding success,” the publication quoted the author as saying. “She is at her most relaxed when around them.”

Seward added that the Queen also gets along well with Prince William and Kate, but the Cambridges do not have the same kind of easygoing moment that she usually enjoys when she’s with the Tindalls. Zara also shares the Queen’s love for horse riding, and this is one of their common interests, making them even closer. Queen Elizabeth’s favoritism showed when it was mentioned that she invested in several horses for her granddaughter, who has lots of achievements as an equestrian.

Zara and the Queen formed their strong bond as they spent a lot of quality time together when the equestrian was just a child. Their closeness carried into adulthood until she got married and Her Majesty got closer to her granddaughter’s husband as well. “Mike is a down-to-earth Yorkshireman who makes her laugh and makes Zara very happy,” Seward said.

The Queen also likes that Zara and Mike are carefree and not involved in any of the royal dramas like feuds, divorce and other scandals, which she really hates because of the great damage they can inflict upon the royal family. The 38-year-old is the daughter of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, and she and her brother, Peter Phillips, are the Queen’s first grandchildren. This may be another reason why they are the closest to Her Majesty.
