An image taken inside Buckingham Palace reportedly dropped a subtle hint as to who between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle is Queen Elizabeth’s favorite granddaughter-in-law. Royal followers spotted this clue in the background as Queen Elizabeth and Boris Johnson posed for a snap inside the Palace following an important meeting.

The photo of Queen Elizabeth and Johnson showed in the background one table holding photos of Prince Harry and Meghan and Prince William and Kate. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that the photo of Prince William and Kate was positioned at the back of Prince Harry and Meghan’s photo.

Although it’s highly likely that the framed photos were positioned to look their best on the table than in order of preference, royal followers couldn’t help but speculate that the way they’re positioned suggests that Queen Elizabeth prefers the Sussexes to the Cambridges. On the other hand, some speculate that the photo of Prince Harry and Meghan were positioned in front of Prince William and Kate’s because it’s smaller than the other.

The photos on the table show Prince Harry and Meghan and Prince William and Kate’s respective official engagement photoshoots, where they are joined by the other members of the royal family. In the photos, both the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge are on the respective left-hand side of the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s photo was first spotted in May 2018, when Queen Elizabeth also posed for a snap with Australian High Commissioner George Brandis inside Buckingham Palace. Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate’s photo was first taken in November 2010 inside the State Apartment at St. James’ Palace.

But even before the photo of Queen Elizabeth and Boris surfaced earlier this week, there had long been speculations as to how the Queen feels about her two granddaughters-in-law. According to reports, Queen Elizabeth is more compatible with Meghan because they share the same sense of humor. However, her royal outings with Kate also suggest that she’s just as comfortable being around the Duchess of Cambridge as she is with the Duchess of Sussex.
