The British Royal Airforce issued an apology after they had sent out a memo requesting for a “preferably non-white male” pilot to be their face in an event that will launch the sequel to the iconic movie "Top Gun." In an email sent by the communication team of the RAF, the Ministry of Defense apologized for the language that was used in the memo saying such words “should not have been used”.

According to Express, the leaked email reads, “Gents, do any of you have a ‘Pilot, who is preferably not white male’ who would like to be the ‘RAF’ face at a press event for the release of Top Gun Two?”

A Ministry of Defense spokesman issued the apology for any offense it may have caused having been heavily criticized by the director of The Bruges Group, Robert Oulds and receiving punt shots on social media from several news outlets.

“The Armed Forces should be a band united to serve Queen and country. This seeks to segregate people and mark people out, not on the basis of their ability, but on the color of their skin,” Oulds said.

GB News Host Collin Brazier was quick to chime in on Twitter saying this was the RAF’s latest attempt to vie for the wokest of Britain’s armed forces. The MoD spokesman reassured they are determined to encourage people to join the RAF regardless of their sex or race. Not much information was released by the Ministry of Defense on the “woke” request.

However, writer and Member of the Order of the British Empire Nick Buckley called for the immediate action of the British government on the matter saying this was clear and blatant bigotry. “We cannot keep degrading a large section of the population without the risk of a backlash,” he said.

The whole email fiasco stemmed from preparations in line with the promotional launch of the movie "Top Gun: Maverick," the sequel to the blockbuster film by Tom Cruise released in 1986. The sequel was scheduled to be premiered years ago but the untimely death by suicide of its director Tony Scott stalled the production as they struggled to work out the logistics of the film’s complex flight scenes.

The movie hits the silver screens on May 27 this year with producers expecting it to measure up to "Top Gun’s" $356 million revenue from a budget of merely $15 million.
