The trailer is out. Fans are now abuzz with excitement over whether or not action star Val Kilmer will appear on “Top Gun: Maverick,” the sequel to the action film “Top Gun” in 1986.

“Top Gun” tells the story of fighter pilot, Maverick (played by Tom Cruise), with a reckless demeanor who enters an elite flying school and meets the cool Iceman, played by Kilmer.

The first look at the trailer came as a surprise at the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 where the lucky audience got more than they expected.

The trailer shows Maverick still in the Navy as a fighter pilot, but Iceman is nowhere in sight. This has kept fans asking -- Will Val Kilmer return to “Top Gun: Maverick”?

It seems the answer hasbeen out for a while now and these hints seem to reassure that Iceman is returning for the sequel.

Back when "Top Gun 2" was confirmed, Kilmer readily took to Instagram his excitement for the sequel. “Friends said it’s official - #TopGun2 was announced today. I’m ready Tom – still got my top gun plaque! Still got the moves! Still got it!” He also posted a photo of himself wearing an Iceman shirt.

Last week, Kilmer again wrote about the movie on social media, saying on a Facebook post together with the "Top Gun 2" trailer, “You up for this one, Maverick?”

Even IMDB lists Kilmer as part of the film. The only mystery left is how big his role will be.

Paramount Pictures is releasing the film on June 26, 2020.

Kilmer has reportedly been seen this July at a charity basketball game after staying out of the public eye and opening up his battle with throat cancer. He has also been spotted a month earlier at a fundraiser activity.

Aside from the “Top Gun: Maverick” role, Kilmer is set to play Bluntman on the “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.”
