Republican Sen. Reportedly Posts And Then Deletes Fake Resignation Letter From Fed Chair Powell

Republican Sen. Mike Lee reportedly posted and then deleted a fake resignation from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Tuesday.

Politico congressional reported Jordain Carney posted a screenshot of the publication, which now doesn't appear on Lee's timeline. "Powell's out!" Lee's message reads, along with siren emojis.

The letter attributed to Powell claims that "after much reflection" he decided to step down from his post effective Tuesday.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized Powell for not lowering interest rates, and even hinted at taking steps towards firing him earlier this month, but has not done so.

Moreover, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday that Powell does not need to resign but he does desire a review of the Federal Reserve's operations.

"His term ends in May. If he wants to see that through, I think he should. If he wants to leave early, I think he should," Bessent said on Fox Business. There are no indications that Powell plans to step down.
