Richard W. Matt and David Sweat managed to escape a maximum security prison in Dannemora, New York, which is located close to the Canada border. Matt and Sweat, who were convicted for murder, have National Security on the look-out using dogs, personal, and helicopters which all have as purpose the apprehension of these two criminals.

The time of the escape has not yet been determined, but it is believed that the inmates broke through the Clinton Correction Facility walls at any time during the early hours of Friday or Saturday. They managed to achieve this by making tunnels through the pipes and it is still unknown how they got the weapons to perform their operation. Corrections officers realized the prisoners were absent while performing their daily inmate head count. A report went out immediately stating that, although it was unsure if the mean are armed, they are believed to be extremely dangerous.

Governor Andrew Cuomo stopped by the Clinton Correction Facility and investigated the scene. He ventured in the path that Matt and Sweat constructed for their escape. During a press conference Cuomo emphasized the danger these individuals may bring to society, and the state of New York, “We are talking about two dangerous individuals, one of them was charged for murdering a sheriff.”

Cuomo revealed that the fugitives used a drill and tubes to break out, and they left piles of clothing shaped as “bodies” to fool the officers during cell inspections. A “Have a nice day!” note was left behind. Cuomo stated that this was the first time that someone manages to pull a stunt like this in a maximum security prison. He also shared that $100, 000 reward will be provided for any information that leads to the apprehension and arrest of the escaped inmates.
