Twenty years after his untimely demise, Tupac's legacy continues to reign supreme. The All Eyez on Me rapper just earned himself a huge vote of confidence after being named as a nominee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tupac joins a long list of music's biggest innovators including Pearl Jam, Jane’s Addiction and Depeche Mode as some of this year's nominees. Along with Pearl Jam, this is Tupac's first year of eligibility. Though hip hop is sparse in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - only five acts have been inducted - Tupac makes a strong case in being the 6th hip hop artist to join the list of legendary musicians.

Last year, N.W.A. was able to make the cut, joining Grandmaster Flash, Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Public Enemy. After being blasted for their recent class, which included Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, Steve Miller and N.W.A for its lack of diversity, this year's nominations includes a slew of hopefuls primed for a chance to capture immortality.

Repeat nominees include Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, the Cars, the Zombies and the MC5. Artists become eligible 25 years after their first recording. Inductees will be named in December, as the show itself will take place in April at Brooklyn's Barclay Center.
