Rumors are rife that Prince Charles will insist on giving Camilla Parker Bowles the title “Queen Consort” when he becomes king. According to a former royal butler, however, the royal family will prevent Camilla from being crowned queen in order to preserve the monarchy.

According to royal butler Grant Harrold, the royal family has the right to keep Camilla from being the Queen of the United Kingdom when Prince Charles becomes king. Although the public thinks that the Prince of Wales will want Camilla to be crowned as queen on the day of his coronation, former royal butler Harrold believes that the royal family already has plans when it comes to the future of Camilla.

The royal family reportedly knows how crowning Camilla as queen could lead to massive public outcry. Because of this, they have changed their plans, according to the royal butler. “Prince Charles made it very clear that when he was King, she’d be Queen Consort,” said Harrold.

“In fact, the Palace actually stated that. But recently, somebody told me they’ve taken that away and it created speculation as to whether when the prince becomes the king, will she then be the Queen? It is very difficult to say because as you can see with the downfall with the expenses, the public has very strong opinion and views,” he added.

Just recently, the royal family came under fire due to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s home renovation expenses. Harrold said that while it has already been more than two decades since Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles fell apart because of Camilla, the British public is still attached to the late Princess of Wales. Hence, crowning Camilla as the future queen would only cause the royal family to receive further criticism.

According to Harrold, Camilla decided not to use the title Princess of Wales when she married Prince Charles out of respect for Princess Diana. At that time, she knew that the British public would resist if she decided to use the title for which Princess Diana was most popularly known. Harrold said that the royal family will respect the British public’s views just the same when it’s time to decide on Camilla’s future in the monarchy.

“When that time comes, it’s something that will be handled very carefully and we’ll see whether they share the announcement she will be crowned Queen and there’s a public outcry, they then will possibly change it,” he said.
