Birdman
"Birdman" chronicles the rise and fall of actor Riggans Thompson, played by Michael Keaton. Fox Searchlight Pictures

The most important award an actor can get: that one given by his/her peers is the SAG (Screen Actors Guild). Usually considered a lead up to the Oscars, stars from TV and Cinema are recognized each January for their work in the ending year. The nominations for the 2015 edition were announced the early morning of Wednesday December 10th by Eva Longoria and Ansel Elgort in Beverly Hills, CA.

On the TV front, 8 categories were announced. Surprisingly, Sofía Vergara wasn't nominated for her job in 'Modern Family.' On drama, there were six actresses scoring nods. But as far as Latinos go only Louis C.K. (who is half-Mexican) got a nomination as Best Leading Actor In A Comedy Role for his homonymous show.

As for cinema, 5 categories were announced, and the omission of Oscar Isaac for 'A Most Violent Year' was one of the major surprises. But Alejandro González Iñárritu's 'Birdman' brought the good news for the Latin community as the Mexican director's fifth movie scored nods in the categories of Best Actress In Supporting Role (Emma Stone), Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Edward Norton), Best Leading Actor (Michael Keaton) and Best Ensamble In A Motion Picture.

Don't miss the 21st SAG Awards on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 8PM, EST, on TNT and TBS.
