Selena Quintanilla
She was named the "Top Latin artist of the '90s" and "Best selling Latin artist of the decade" by Billboard for her fourteen top-ten singles in the Top Latin Songs chart, including seven number-one hits. She was called "The Queen of Tejano music" and opened the doors for that music genre. At the peak of her career, Selena visited local schools to talk to students about the importance of education and also donated her time to civic organizations. Mezcalent

Earlier this month, rumors started swirling that Selena Quintanilla’s family were inspired by the Billboard Awards and watching Michael Jackson’s hologram, and they were looking into doing something similar but with Selena’s image. Selena’s family never made an official announcement about those alleged plans, and it’s because they’ve been looking into the idea for quite some time now. The Quintanilla family started looking into it back in 2011, but it wasn’t until 2013 that they finally got together with AV Concepts, a company that specializes in holograms. However, they weren’t too pleased with the results.

The family came to the sad realization that the images of the singer they had weren’t going to be enough. The full body pictures were from afar, and the rest was close-ups. “After the meeting, when we all went back to the bus, we all agreed that this was not good enough for the fans,” Selena’s brother A.B. Quintanilla told AP. “She looked like a ghost, the images weren’t clear and when it comes to Selena, we all expect a quality product.” Some people have suggested taking some footage and images of Jennifer Lopez in her role as Selena, but A.B. seems hesitant.

“Some people say, ‘Well, we could use Jennifer Lopez’s body and put Selena’s head,’ but that wouldn’t make any sense. If you love Selena, why would you want to see JLo’s body with her head? It would be like Frankenstein.” Once the family started exploring other options, their hopes went down even more. “The prices they’re asking are ridiculous and you have to move a lot of equipment only to show the hologram of one song,” Selena’s dad, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. told AP via phone.

A.B. added, “I heard some people are asking 3 million dollars for every 30 seconds of a song, and others ask $800,000 per minute. Imagine what it would cost to make a hologram of ‘Como La Flor,’ which lasts three minutes. No concert is that expensive. It’s ridiculous.” According to the senior Quintanilla, the only possibility of making a hologram of Selena is using images of her 1993 historic performance at the Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi, but A.B. is not so sure. “Even the full-body shots are from afar. It’s too little or nothing what can be used from that footage. This is impossible to do without Selena’s presence.”
