The coronavirus was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization last month as the infection spread rapidly all over the world. Now, with over 966,000 cases and 49,295 deaths globally, some officials are saying that China should be held accountable for the COVID-19 outbreak that originated in Wuhan.

The question is why it took a while before WHO become aware of the deadly infectious disease when it was already identified earlier. Experts think that China has its faults and should be held accountable for the pandemic because it withheld or deliberately concealed a health crisis thus the World Health Organization has no idea how serious the situation was and only realized it when infection rapidly spread and people are already dying.

According to Fox News, the Chinese government covered up, withheld information and prevented the discovery from getting out in the early weeks of its emergence. It was said that the government’s response and actions raised the question if the communist region should be held liable.

"Generally countries like China have sovereign immunity and governments cannot be brought to regular courts or held liable regardless of their conduct," Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, an Israel-based lawyer specializing in litigating terrorist regimes told the news outlet. "However, an argument could be made that just like support for terrorism, which is legally actionable, a government that engages in such reckless disregard and negligence and covers up an epidemic that has the potential to spread worldwide could be held legally liable."

Furthermore, the National Review stated that another reason why China is liable for the coronavirus pandemic is Morality. The report mentioned that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s regime refused to take responsibility for letting the virus spread uncontrolled in Wuhan before taking over China, then finally spreading to other countries.

The publication noted that the Chinese officials are aware that the outbreak was already at a serious level as early as December but they waited for weeks before issuing restriction orders and banning Wuhan residents from traveling or visiting their relatives outside of their city and overseas. Experts such as the British scientists explained that if China immediately acted on the coronavirus issue, its spread could have been contained by as much as 95 percent.

The report added that rather than honoring the doctor who tried to warn people about the highly contagious virus infection, China apprehended him and later he also died due to the severe pulmonary disease. To sum it up, the country opted to deny the truth about coronavirus and its governing malpractice and incompetence that resulted in a global pandemic.
