"South Park" creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker goofed up last week. In what was perhaps an inevitable consequence of their habit of writing and creating episodes at the last minute -- one chronicled in the 2011 Comedy Central documentary of the duo's creative process, "6 Hours to Air" -- the creators missed their deadline for Episode 4 of Season 17 last week after a power outage downed equipment in their studio. Comedy Central ran the old episode "Scott Tenorman Must Die" in its place, leaving many diehards confused and disappointed. Things are, at least for now, back on track: "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers" will air tonight. Scroll down to the end of the page to watch a video clip from the episode.
"On Tuesday night, South Park Studios lost power," read a press release from Stone and Parker last Wednesday. "From animation to rendering to editing and sound, all of our computers were down for hours and we were unable to finish episode 1704 "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers" in time for air tonight. Trey Parker said, 'It sucks to miss an air date but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen.'" When reached for comment, reps for Comedy Central told the Los Angeles Times they had nothing else to add to Parker's statement.
The not-so-new-anymore but still unseen episode of "South Park" revolves mostly around the Goth kids, who will have to team up with their sworn enemies, according to a press release from the studio's website. "One of the Goth kids has been sent to a camp for troubled children," it says. "When she returns, her friends find her changed in a disturbing way. With their very existence threatened, the Goths have to do something drastic. They are forced to ask the Vamp kids for help."
In the clip, "There's My Sunshine", one of the "Goth kids", named Henrietta, gets called into the living room to have a talk with her loving parents, who want to reassure her that in spite of the "fact" that she's "emo", they still "love their little Muffin." "We've had a hard time coping with the dark things you're into," says Henrietta's father, "but we've finally had some counseling. We've learned about -- what it is you're into -- and apparently we're not the only parents who have a child that is - emo." A characterization which Henrietta, being a goth kid, takes indignant exception to.
