"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is making a significant impact at the box office.

The sequel has debuted with an impressive $120.5 million, surpassing expectations.

This opening marks the third highest ever for an animated film and the highest for Sony Animation, without adjusting for inflation.

Additionally, it stands as the second-largest opening of 2023 thus far. As the clear frontrunner, the movie has received rave reviews from both critics and audiences alike, contributing to its success.

With 67 percent of ticket purchasers between the ages of 18 and 34, 'Across the Spider-Verse' played older than a typical children's animated film.

Additionally, according to PostTrak, the movie leaned male (62%) as nearly all superhero movies do. The movie got the second-highest foot traffic of any 2023 release, after Universal's The Super Movie Bros. Movie, according to EntTelligence.

The achievements of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" continue to impress. Its opening weekend was three times larger than its predecessor, 'Into the Spider-Verse,' which debuted at $35.6 million domestically in 2018 and went on to become a massive success, grossing $384.2 million worldwide.

In 'Across the Spider-Verse,' the story once again revolves around Marvel's Miles Morales/Spider-Man, voiced by Shameik Moore, and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, as they venture through the multiverse of Spider-People.

Joining the voice cast is Issa Rae, who portrays Jessica Drew. The film attracted a diverse audience, as indicated by the exit-poll service PostTrak.

Lord and Miller served as producers and writers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," alongside David Callaham who contributed to the screenplay.

A sequel titled "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" is planned for release in 2024.

Disney's "The Little Mermaid" secured the second position at the box office in its second weekend, generating an estimated $40.6 million from 4,320 theaters. The live-action adaptation experienced a 58 percent decline.

Internationally, "The Little Mermaid" added an additional $40.6 million to its earnings, bringing its foreign total to $140.5 million and global total to $326.7 million.

The third spot on the box office chart was claimed by The Boogeyman, a horror film from the 20th Century based on a Stephen King story.

The movie is expected to open domestically with a solid $12.3 million. It began its international run with $7.7 million, resulting in a global debut of $20 million, Hollywood Reporter reported.

In its fifth weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from Marvel and Disney surpassed Fast X at the box office, earning an estimated $10.2 million domestically.

The film has now accumulated a total of $322.8 million in North America and an impressive $780.1 million worldwide.

With this achievement, Disney secured three out of the top four positions on the domestic chart.

"Fast X", released by Universal, occupied the fifth spot on the chart. Despite this placement, the film had a strong performance, crossing the $600 million milestone in global box office revenue.

It was particularly fueled by its impressive foreign ticket sales, reaching $474.8 million.

The developer of Spider-Man 2 has affirmed that there will be fresh footage featured in the game, directly from the Spider-Verse.

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" premiered in theaters over the weekend, showcasing a brief glimpse of Insomniac's upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Additionally, James Stevenson, the community director at Insomniac, has confirmed that this footage is completely fresh.

When fans on Resetera pointed out that the footage was not present in the recent PlayStation Showcase trailer, Stevenson responded by affirming, "It is indeed new."

What does the footage contain?

The footage is quite brief, but it features a scene in the movie where Miles Morales' friend Ganke can be seen playing on a PlayStation 5, with two white controllers visible.

On the screen, there is footage of a Spider-Man video game, even with the animated filters that the film incorporates, Eurogamer reported.

A snippet of this footage can be observed in the tweet below, showcasing Peter Parker wearing a spider suit with mechanical arms that were not present in the first game.

To learn more about the upcoming sequel from Insomniac, let's delve into the details of how character switching will function.

In addition, the developers had a conversation with Eurogamer about the sequel's shift towards a darker tone and their response to the recently unveiled footage from the PlayStation Showcase.
