During Q3 of 2022, the positions for the top three Mexican states in terms of exports were attained by the northern states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Nuevo León, Mexico News Daily reported.
Chihuahua tops the list, according to Mexico's statistics bureau INEGI, with exports valued at $20.15 billion US. Thus, from July 1 to Sept. 30, exports from Chihuahua made up 14.9% of all exports from Mexico.
Following were the states of Coahuila (11.6%), Nuevo León (10.2%), Baja California (10.1%), and Tamaulipas (6.4%). Altogether, these four states’ exports accounted for 53.2% of the country’s total.
Hidalgo is first on the list of states that have had the most growth when compared to the same period in 2021, with an increase of 95.9%, followed by Oaxaca (61.4%), Puebla (57.8%), Chiapas (52.1%), and Mexico City (46.4%).
The manufacturing industry accounted for 89.6% of all exports, followed by the mining industry (which includes oil production) with 7.9% and agriculture with 2.5%.
When broken down, the subsector that produced transport equipment stood out for its contribution to the total amount of the commodity's exports. Coahuila, Guanajuato, Nuevo León, Puebla, and Chihuahua were the states with the highest exports, accounting for 21.2%, 12.2%, 10.2%, 9.4%, and 8.4% of total exports, respectively. The leading states contributed 61.4% of the export value of the goods collectively.
With 18.2% of all exports, the electrical equipment sub-sector came in second. Chihuahua topped the list with a contribution of 46%, followed by Baja California, which came in second with a contribution value of 19.2%, and Jalisco (16.3%). Next were the northern states of Tamaulipas (7.9%) and Nuevo León (3.8%).
Electrical appliances and equipment for the production of electric power and oil and gas extraction, with a 6.2% share each, came in third. The states of Campeche (59.3%), Tabasco (33.7%), Veracruz (4.7%), Chiapas (1.6%), and Tamaulipas (.6%) accounted for 100% of exports in the gas and oil sector.
Agricultural exports were led by the states of Michoacán (31.6%), Baja California (11.3%), Sinaloa (10.7%), Jalisco (6.8%), and Guanajuato (6.5%), accounting for 66.9% of the sector's overseas sales.
Tequila exports contribute to this sector, which reached a record high in 2022 with a 34.1% increase compared to the same period in 2021.
