'Suicide Squad' star Joel Kinnaman is being investigated in Sweden for allegedly raping a model. Bella Davis, 28, claims Kinnaman, 41, sexually assaulted her twice in a New York hotel room in 2018. Following that, the public prosecutor confirmed on Wednesday that the claim against Kinnaman was being investigated, according to TMZ.

Kinnaman, on the other hand, has disputed the charges, stating that they are made by an obsessed woman seeking retribution for a restraining order. On the other hand, Davis told Daily Mail that she is "thankful" that the Swedish authorities are paying attention to her complaint.

Kinnaman has denied the allegations, claiming that he and Davis had a consensual romance. He is now allegedly being used as a scapegoat by the Swedish model in exchange for money and Hollywood contacts. According to Kinnaman's legal team, Davis' charges are an attempt to extort money from him.

Kinnaman has also filed a police complaint against Davis in Sweden, his representative said. He "will be collaborating with authorities to vindicate his identity."

The legal team said Davis only came out with the accusation after Kinnaman had gone to the police and obtained the restraining order himself.

"It appears that after learning of the restraining order, she filed her complaint," his attorney Patricia Glaser said per the New York Post.

Davis is also said to have given over audio and photographic proof to authorities. According to Davis, Kinneman applied for a restraining order the same day she refused to sign a confidentiality agreement, according to the Daily Mail.

"Now I leave it in the cops' hands," she said. "And I'm super happy and thankful they are taking my case seriously."

It is unknown whether Davis' assertions are real, but they are undoubtedly damaging to Kinnaman. Kinnaman claimed in a lengthy Instagram post a few days ago that he was being extorted by model Gabriella Magnusson, also known as Bella Davis.

Davis became preoccupied with him following a consensual sexual encounter, according to him, and was attempting to extort money from him to be a part of a Sports Illustrated picture shoot.

Kinnaman was granted a temporary restraining order last Friday, and the investigation began two days later.

Kinnaman claimed on his Instagram account that the two met and had sex in November 2018. Kinnaman was a bachelor at the time. They met again a month later and had sex, but he claimed they didn't spend the night together because he had work the next day.

"The next day, she texted me that she was bothered that I had not asked her to spend the night and that I did not check with her to make sure she made it home safely," he wrote.

Davis called Kinnaman again in 2019 and 2020, requesting that they meet. On the other hand, Kinnaman declined by not answering because he was already in a relationship at the time. According to the actor's message, he sought to cut it off after "increasingly obsessive communication."

"Recently, Bella resorted to threatening to publicize false information about me – including that I had sex with her against her will – unless I capitulated to her demands," he claimed.

Davis told E! News that she never threatened Kinnaman or demanded money from him after lifted the temporary restraining order. According to the site, she stated that the actor "should have an Oscar for how he's writing and acting."

According to Variety, the model said Kinnaman allegedly "begged [sic] for forgiveness" on Zoom before filing the restraining order when she refused to sign an NDA.

The rape inquiry is in the "early stages," according to Virpi Alajarva, chamber prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor's Office in Skvde, who made a statement on Wednesday.

"Further investigation is needed before it is possible to have an idea of what may have happened,’ the prosecutor said. “At the moment, the criminal classification is rape," the prosecutor added.

While the claimed rape occurred in New York, Swedish law may allow the case to be prosecuted there.

Its criminal code provides that a person can be prosecuted in a Swedish court if a crime is committed outside of Sweden but committed by a Swedish person.

Kinnaman announced his engagement to Kelly Gale, a 26-year-old Swedish-Australian model, in early 2021.
