Texas police say a woman intentionally left her 15-month-old in a hot car, leading to the infant's death.
Vanessa Esquivel, 27, was charged with murder in the Aug. 16 death. Police said she intentionally left the child in the car for over two hours even though she knew that her vehicle did not have a working air conditioner and temperatures outside were at least 95 degrees.
Police added that Esquivel went to work at about 2 p.m., leaving the child behind in the car. About two hours later police were called to the parking lot of Medical City Plano.
The infant has not been identified by authorities. Police said that, based on Esquivel's intentional actions, they decided to pursue murder charges.
ABC News reported that police obtained a warrant for Esquivel's arrest for first-degree murder. She was taken into custody Aug. 20 and held on $250,000 bond. ABC News reported that if she is convicted, she could spend her life in prison.
