Prince William is second in line to the throne, which means that if Queen Elizabeth retires or passes away, her son, Prince Charles, will become king. However, if he also retires or dies, it will be the Duke of Cambridge’s turn to reign as king. Once he ascends the throne, many things will happen.

Choosing The Best Name

Prince William will be required to choose the name he will use once he sits on the throne. He can only choose from the names that were already used by the past kings. In his case, he can keep his name if he wants to because “William” was already used in the monarchy before.

He will be the fifth to use this name, so he will be called King William V or King William the Fifth. To be officially addressed as king, his name would be “William V, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.” But since this is too long, it can be shortened to “His Majesty the King.”

Change Of Residence

Prince William and his family must move from Kensington Palace to Buckingham Palace. It is the official residence of the queen or king, so they are required to change their address.

Currency And Stamps Reprinted With His Face

Countries do not usually change the design of their bills. But in the U.K., when the sovereign changes, they will also change their money to print the face of the current king or queen. Thus, Prince William’s face will be on coins and paper money when he takes the throne. This is the same with stamps: it should bear the face of the reigning leader of the monarch.

First Project As King

It can be recalled in the documentary titled “The Diana Story,” the Princess of Wale’s former butler, Paul Burrell, revealed that when her mother was stripped of her title “Her Royal Highness” following the divorce from Prince Charles, the 14-year-old Prince William promised her that he will give back her title once he becomes king.

Annual Christmas Broadcast

Since Prince William will be taking all the tasks that King Charles has left as the Head of State and Church, he is expected to lead the annual Royal Christmas Broadcast and opening of the Parliament. He also needs to hold meetings with the prime minister every week.
