A two-year-old boy breathed his last on Monday morning after falling from the second floor of a mall in Colorado on Sunday, said the Aurora Police Department.

Police have asked people who witnessed the incident to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers so that they can follow up. According to the Aurora Police, the incident happened near the escalator at Taco Joes at the Aurora Mall around 4pm. Police said that the boy jumped out of a man’s arms. The child then went over the railing and fell on the first floor. He was immediately taken to a hospital.

APD Lieutenant Chris Amsler told FOX31 that incidents where a very young child is seriously injured or killed are taken care by the Crimes Against Children Unit. Police said that they believe the mall episode was accidental.

Some of the witnesses said that they saw the child lying on the ground, and that he was not moving at all. Cesar Solorzano, who was shopping nearby, said that initially everybody was crowded around the child and someone was probably checking his vitals. He felt sad for the boy's parents as their shopping trip ended with them going to the hospital.

The name of the boy has not been released, reported The Denver Post.

A spokesperson for Washington Prime Group, the owner of Town Center at Aurora, issued a statement saying that their thoughts and prayers were with the child and his family. The spokesperson also shared that they were working closely with the Aurora Fire and police departments regarding the incident.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old boy died after falling from the gallery of a flat on the 21st floor of a building near Majiwada Naka in Maharashtra earlier this month. The body of the boy, identified as Ishan Shinde, was found in a pool of blood at the base of the building, reported The Times Of India.

According to an officer from the Vartak Nagar police station, the teenager was standing in the gallery of the apartment, and "might have lost balance and fallen from the building." Another officer said that it is an accidental fall.
