To boost sporting credibility, Toyota fielded a team consisting of one Lexus LFA and four GT86 sports cars to race at the past weekend's 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Hundreds of grueling laps and 24 hours battling against more than 160 racing cars later, Toyota emerged victorious, celebrating the victories of the LFA in the SP8 class, a GT86 in the SP3 class, as well as another GT86 in the V3 class.
The 1st place finishing SP8 class GAZOO Racing Lexus LFA ran a consistent race throughout, even posting a personal fastest-lap time of just 8:44.636, to clinch 15th overall.
The double class win by the pair of GT86 are especially significant for Toyota, as the Japanese automaker readies the global release of its new GT86 sports car this summer. The GAZOO Racing Toyota GT86 completed 129 laps, placed first in the SP3 class, and 46th overall. Finally, the Swiss Racing Toyota GT86 finished 119 laps, placed 1st in the 'close-to-production' V3 class, and 78th overall. A second SP3 GAZOO Toyota GT 86 scored a 3rd place finish but the second Swiss Racing Toyota GT 86 suffered an abrupt retirement on lap 11.
Overall victory of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring went to the Audi team, with a commanding 1-2 finish for the Audi R8 LMS ultra GT3 race cars.
The Toyota GT 86 will be released in North America as a Scion FR-S starting next month.
