Netflix has announced “The Umbrella Academy” season 3 release date and the streaming service is giving fans plenty of reasons to be excited about the new season.

Season 3 of the show began filming in February and is already complete. It will premiere in 2022, according to the streaming service (via  Digital Spy). But the story does not end there. Netflix also confirmed that the new chapter will be set at the Hotel Oblivion, which is the novel's next chapter. However, the specific date is still unknown, Animated Times said.

A video under the 'Trailers and More' section on the show's Netflix page provided the hint. The ringing of the desk bell is a tribute to Gerard Way's third book, “Hotel Oblivion,” which is named after a place "no-one could escape." Netflix gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the popular superhero show.

Fans of “The Umbrella Academy” can look forward to the return of the Hargreeves twins, as well as the introduction of the rival Sparrow Academy, which showrunner Steve Blackman has promised will "certainly change things up."

When asked about the upcoming season, Blackman told Digital Spy that “The Umbrella Academy” should be allowed to unwind now. However, something isn't quite right now that they've returned.

The plot focuses on the Hargreeves family, a dysfunctional group of adoptive superhero siblings. After their father's mysterious death, they are brought back together. This, however, leads to the realization of an imminent apocalypse. Both the critics and the audience praised the show and gave it high marks. Netflix has already confirmed the debut date for The Umbrella Academy season 3.

Elliot Page, Justin H. Min, Tom Hopper, David Castaneda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, and Aidan Gallagher as the Hargreeves brothers, as well as Ritu Arya as Lila and Colm Feore as the family patriarch Reginald Hargreeves, will all return in the upcoming third season.

Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David have joined the ensemble (with Min also playing an alternate universe version of his character, Ben) will serve under the Sparrow Academy.
