Ever since President Donald Trump has been called out for his delayed response in laying down strict social distancing and lockdown measures across the United States, he has been increasingly devoted to blaming China for the pandemic.

From claiming that the virus is made in Wuhan Institute of Virology and escaped from there to accusing China’s leaders of deliberately delaying the news of coronavirus’ spread and allowing it to infect the world, the U.S. President has left no stone unturned.

And now, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has laid yet another blame on the Chinese government -- that they have has been trying to steal coronavirus research data from the U.S.

In a joint statement, the organizations further shared that the People's Republic of China-affiliated "cyber actors and non-traditional collectors... have been observed attempting to identify and illicitly obtain valuable intellectual property (IP) and public health data related to vaccines, treatments, and testing from networks and personnel affiliated with COVID-19-related research."

After promising to reveal more details about this alleged threat in a few days, the federal agencies cautioned health care, pharmaceutical, and research sectors currently working on coronavirus that extra press attention devoted to their work will bring more cyber activity. And that’s why they should keep working while keeping hackers at bay by maintaining “dedicated cybersecurity and insider threat practices."

For extra security, these groups should re-check all internet-connected servers, software processing internet data, and other systems, and actively scan web applications for unauthorized access, modifications or anomalous activities. The federal agencies also advised all U.S. organizations to improve their users' credential requirements and ensure that it requires multi-factor authentication.

Incensed by the allegations, the Chinese state-run newspaper Global Times said the U.S. government has "totally lost their minds” and lacks “substantial evidence to support the accusation.”

“The despicable war of words is a publicity stunt by certain crank politicians. The COVID-19 pandemic is still raging across the world, especially in the U.S. If any country dares to hack other countries' labs and steal research results into vaccines, it would be an act against all humanity. Making up such rumors is convenient for the US government so that US politicians can dodge their own culpability and failures, and instead allegedly hold China accountable for COVID-19 spread in the US,” the article further added.
