"Vampire Diaries" maybe taking a holiday break but that doesn't mean it's returning with good cheer. Episode 9, "The Cell" will get seriously creepy next week, exposing even more dark secrets from Damon's past. Damon's dark past is not the only history that will be uncovered in the all-new episode, the mystery surrounding Dr. Max Westfield, Whitmore's secret society and even the elusive Augustine vampire will all be revealed in "The Cell," which only makes us wonder more what or who will be trapped! In the promo video for episode 9, Elena is walking on campus with new character Aaron, although this is no friendly afternoon stroll.
The pair is seen in a serious conversation with Elena begging Aaron for information about his legal guardian, Dr. Maxfield. Elena, clearly emotional, needs Aaron's help in order to find and save Damon from the doctor's modern day torture chamber, which he considers a lab. Elena only recently learned that this is not the first time her boyfriend has been experimented on, after the couple discovered the truth about Jesse and his role as lab rat to Dr. Maxfield, Damon confessed that he had suffered the same fate at the hands of another doctor in the past. The secrets exposed in "Dead Man on Campus" will make there way into next week's episode, fans will be able to witness the notoriously dark period of the vampire's life, the exact time that he became the subject of a series of medical experiments. But as I mentioned before, this is just the tip of the secret's iceberg, Elena discovers particularly disturbing information about her family. The unearthed secret deeply affects the way she thinks and feels about her adoptive father and former Whitmore College professor, Grayson Gilbert. Could Elena's father have been involved in these vampire tests, or was he a part of the Whitmore secret society, or maybe even the secret has a supernatural twist!
The full synopsis for episode 9 "The Cell" reads, "Stefan continues to offer Katherine his support while trying to mask his own pain, until Caroline shows up with an unusual form of therapy. After trying to make amends with Caroline, Elena grows so concerned about Damon that she turns to Aaron for help. Later, when Damon tells Elena about a terrible ordeal in his past that he has kept secret for decades, she shares the disturbing information she just learned about her own family. Finally, Aaron decides on a desperate course of action after a conversation with Dr. Wes." While the Stefan, Katherine and Caroline drama is certainly entertaining, the best part of the new "Vampire Diaries" episode will certainly be the action between Elena, Damon, Aaron and Dr. Maxfield, with, passion, vampires, secret societies, and mysterious doctors, we think this episode may be the best one of Season 5!
