Another veteran character is on death’s door in “The Walking Dead” season 9, and it’s someone you didn’t see coming.

When the Whisperers and their leader, Alpha, arrived, it sparked exit fears among fans. In “The Walking Dead” comics, the dawn of the Whisperers heralded a series of brutal deaths — and the shocking death of Jesus proved that the TV series would not shy away from this horrific chapter.

Now, new evidence suggests that another major character might be the next to depart the show. Recently, Katelyn Nacon upped sticks from the show’s filming location in Georgia to move to Los Angeles, suggesting that her character Enid could die in place of the character who dies at this stage in the comic book. For eagle-eyed fans, the implication of her recent move is that her character may not make it until the end of the current season.

Could she be in the crosshairs for the Fair? Possible.

In the source material, the Fair covers the most terrible deaths in the series. The deaths in this chapter are more brutal than Glenn’s and Abraham’s — the Whisperers start abducting the residents. And as the people finally figure out who have gone missing, they go out to conduct a search, only to bump into a horde of walkers emerging from the ridges. The rest is history.

At this point in the comic book, among the walkers are Ezekiel and Rosita. With Ezekiel portrayer Khary Payton revealing that he’s up to leaving the show soon, it’s possible that his fate in the TV adaptation is following the path of his fate in the comics. But as for Rosita, who’s pregnant at this point in the series, it’s possible she’s not doomed.

“The Walking Dead” TV series has a long history of deviating from its source material, and Nacon’s recent move to Los Angeles might be an indication that her character is not going to follow her comic storyline exactly. As Rosita gets to stay, Enid might be the one to end up emerging from the ridges with Ezekiel and the rest of the walkers.

Only time can tell.

“The Walking Dead” season 9 airs Sunday nights on AMC.
