A security guard at a school in California has been fired from his job and is facing child abuse charges after hitting and kicking a student in a wheelchair who suffers from cerebral palsy. Apparently, the reason for the beating was that the student was late to class. The student is Hispanic and was identified as Francisco Martinez. The incident occurred at Oakland High School. Watch the horrific video below to see the poor student abused by the guard.

Marchell Mitchell apparently told Martinez to move toward his next class, but the student "either refused to comply or was slow to do so," Principal Matin Abdel-Qawi wrote in a letter to parents. "The security officer then struck the student several times before dumping him from his wheelchair onto the floor, at which time another security officer intervened to restrain his partner,” Abdel-Qawi wrote. Mitchell has since been arrested and is charged with corporal injury to a child.

“I’m shocked and deeply hurt by this behavior and apologize on behalf of the staff at Oakland High,” Principal Abdel-Qawi wrote. “This incident is not reflective of the kind of culture we cherish at our school or how we treat one another.” Oakland school district spokesman Troy Flint told the New York Daily News that the school district was "outraged and disgusted....Our job is to nurture students, not to attack them," Flint said."To fail in such a dramatic way is very sobering for us and cause for reflection on what we need to do to improve."
