The U.S. military confirmed on Monday that three F-15 jets were shot down "due to an apparent friendly fire incident" in Kuwait as the war in the Middle East continues.

The U.S. Central Command detailed that the incident involved "three US F-15E Strike Eagles flying in support of Operation Epic Fury."

Officials went on to note that, during "active combat -- that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones -- the US Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses."

"All six aircrew ejected safely, have been safely recovered, and are in stable condition," it added, noting that Kuwait acknowledged the incident. CENTCOM concluded by detailing that the cause of the incident is under investigation and more information will be released.

So far U.S: authorities confirmed the deaths of three U.S. service members and the injury of five others. President Donald Trump had warned that the U.S. expected casualties in the operation. "But in the end is going to be a great deal for the world," he told NBC News.

Trump said on Sunday that "there are many outcomes that are good" in the ongoing operation. "Number one is decapitating them, getting rid of their whole group of killers and thugs. And there are many, many outcomes. We could do the short version or the longer version," he said.

The president went on to say that Iranian officials "are talking" with the U.S. but didn't provide further details. He noted that Tehran was not willing to stop nuclear research and officials were not "willing to say they will not have a nuclear weapon."

When announcing the strikes on Saturday morning, Trump accused Iran of conducting "mass terror" since the 1979 revolution, adding that "we're not going to put up with it any longer."

"We're going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. We're going to annihilate their navy, we're going to ensure that the region's terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region or the world and attack our forces," Trump said in a passage of his speech. "We will ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon," he added.

Elsewhere in the speech, Trump encouraged the people of Iran to topple the regime once the bombing ends. "When we are finished, take over your government, it will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations."
